World Fair Trade Day Concert with Airport

May 11, 2010

This past Saturday, May 8, Shop for Change celebrated World Fair Trade Day in Mumbai with a concert from the fabulous band, Airport.

On World Fair Trade Day last year, Shop for Change was still functioning under the radar, certifying our first groups of cotton farmers and just beginning our work with companies like Mother Earth and AND, who have since signed on as partners of Shop for Change.  This year, we knew it was time to spread the word that Shop for Change is in action and that India is now a place for the fair trade movement to grow and thrive. We were thrilled to have Airport volunteer their time to support Shop for Change and the cause of fair trade.

So what is World Fair Trade Day exactly?  It’s an international celebration and promotion of fair trade, with events being held in over 80 countries.  Businesses, nonprofit organisations, student groups, civic associations, religious groups, stores, and activists host events to promote better livelihoods for farmers and artisans through the global movement for trade justice.  Shop for Change is is proud to be part of an international group of changemakers, and we invite you to join us!

Check out more photos from the event on our Facebook page and be sure to visit and Mother Earth or AND stores to pick up your very own Shop for Change certified clothing! See the Where to Buy page to find all store locations.
